Former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram he recently arrested for INX Media case is known for his political sagacious as well as for his economic expertise.

He was born on September 16, 1945 to Lakshmi Achi and Kandanur L Ct L Palaniappa Chettiar in Kanadukathan in Sivaganga District, Tamil Nadu. He also know as PC. He was a lawyer and a Former Union Finance Minister by profession.

1- Chidambaram belongs from a very wealthy family and his father had business in textiles, trading and plantations. He have siblings of two brothers and one sister.

2- P. Chidambaram’s mother Lakshmi Achi she was the daughter of Raja Sir Annamalai Chettiar, who was the founder of famous Annamalai University as well as founder of United India Insurance Company Limited.

3- P. Chidambaram did his schooling from Madras Christian College Higher Secondary School and received a pre-university degree from Loyola College, Chennai. He also completed his Bachelors of Laws Degree from the Madras Law College (now Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College) and he did his MBA from Harvard Business School in the class of 1968.


4- In Tamil Nadu, A town named after Chidambaram in Cuddalore district.

5- P. Chidambaram did love marriage with Nalini. He married her against their families’ wish. Nalini, She is the daughter of Supreme Court Justice (Retd.) P.S. Kailasam and famous Tamil Poet Soundra Kailasam.


6- P. Chidambaram won his first election in 1984 and He was elected as a Lok Sabha member from Sivaganga constituency. He was again re-elected from the same constituency in 1989, 1991, 1996, 1998, 2004 and 2009 as well.

7- In September 1985 he got first ministerial post and become Union Deputy Minister of Commerce.

8- From 1996 to 1998 he was the Union Cabinet Minister of Finance in India.

9- In September 2011, Subramanian Swamy made him accused of 2G Spectrum Scam but later on the CBI Court and Supreme Court of India, gave him a clean chits on this matter.

10-  On 6 April 2009, A journalist threw his shoe at Chidambaram when he was addressing a press conference on why the Congress leader Jagdish Tytler was given a clean chit in the 1984 Sikh Riots. .
