Ang Lee one of the famous director who have directed many films which include ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’ and ‘Brokeback Mountain.’ He debut his directorial journey with the film Pushing Hands in 1992 and later on he directed many movies which include Sense and Sensibility and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. He is the first asian to win an Academy Award for best director category for the film Brokeback Mountain.
He was born in Taipei, Taiwan on October 23, 1954. He graduated in 1975 from National Taiwan College of Arts and then he moved to United Stated in 1979 after finished his mandatory military service in the Republica of China Navy (ROCN) and enrolled himself at the university of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and New York University. His father wanted him to become a professor but he was more interested towards drama and that’s why he enrolled himself in National Taiwan College of Arts. After finishing MFA (Master of Fine Arts from New York University) he worked for some small project with Spike Lee who was his classmate and then he worked with William Morris Agency but there were not too much worked and he remained unemployed for next six month and his wife Jane Lin who was a molecular biologist was the sole breadwinner for the family of four.
Pushing Hands one of the successful move with which Lee started his debut in 1992 and he also earned Academy Award nominations for his next two projects The Wedding Banquet (1993) and Eat Drink Man Woman (1994). Later on he earned Academy Award nomination for the movie Sense and Sensibility (1995) and become the first Asian to win this award the movie were starring Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet and Hugh Grant along with it he also won Oscars for the movie The Ice Storm (1997); Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) and four BAFTA Awards, 1 Golden Globe Award for best director for the movie Hulk in 2003.
In 2013 he directed another popular movie Life of Pi and got second Academy Award for this movie direction this movie was based on best-selling novel by Yann Martel he also won the Best Director Oscar for this movie as 3-D.
He is living in Larchmont in Westchester County, New York with his wife Jane Lin with whom he married in 1983 she is a Micro Biologist. Both these couple have 2 sons Haan who born on 1984 and Mason who born on 1990. He also usally said that he have citizenship of United State and he believed in the Taoist-Buddha.
