Bhanurekha Ganesan (born 10 October 1954), better known by her stage name Rekha, She is an Indian film star. Noted by one of the finest actresses in Indian film Industries. She started her career in 1966 as a child actress in Telgu film Rangula Ratnam.

About Rekha & Her Early Life
Rekha full name is Bhanurekha Ganesan. She was born on 10 October 1954 in Chennai and her father was a Tamil Actor Gemini Ganesan and her mother was a Telugu actress Pushpavalli. Her father always wanted Rekha to become an actress and she did it. She started her career as a child actress in Telugu Film Rangula Ratnam in 1966 and then after four year later as a lead actress with Sawan Bhadon. During her 50 year of career she did more then 180 films and she also won three Filmfare Awards, two for Best Actress and one for Best Supporting Actress in Khubsoorat (1980), Khoon Bhari Maang (1988) and Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi (1996). She also won National Film Award for Best Actress for the popular Movie Umrao Jaan (1981). In 2010 she got honoured with India’s fourth Highest Civilian Award The Padma Shri by the Government of India. She did her schooling from Mount Fort Convent for Girls School in Yercaud, Tamilnadu, India. She know many languages like Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and English very fluently.
Rekha’s Film Career
In 1970’s she appeared as a child actress in Telugu film Rangula Ratnam (1966) and she debut as lead actress with Kannada film peration Jackpot Nalli C.I.D 999 with Rajkumar in 1969, in the same year she worked in hindi film Anjana Safar but the movie couldn’t released due to one of the Kissing scene with leading actor Biswajit. Although she hadn’t interested in acting but as she had no chance to earn for her family so she started workin in it. At starting since she belongs to south India so she was not able to speak hindi popularly and she was always struggled to communicate with her co-workers. Once Rekha quoted to a magzine that “I’m healed, I am not bitter anymore, I don’t think I ever was.”. After successful of her Bollywood debut movie Sawan Bhadon, She appeared in many other commercially succssful movies and that were the block buster at that time like Raampur Ka Lakshman (1972), Kahani Kismat Ki (1973), and Pran Jaye Par Vachan Na Jaye (1974). But despit of all these success Rekha was not satisfied with herself once she said with a magzine that “I was called the ‘Ugly Duckling’ of Hindi films because of my dark complexion and South Indian features. I used to feel deeply hurt when people compared me with the leading heroines of the time and said I was no match for them. I was determined to make it big on sheer merit.”
After that she transformed herself alots, She now started paying attention on her makeup, her dressing sens and she also started improving her acting skills along with the Hindi-language Skills. She alos lose weight and followed her nutritionist and started followed a disciplined life. Now she started working and started choosing her role with extra care she herself studied all the script befor signing it. In 1976 she played a role with Amitabh Bachchan’s in Film Do Anjaane and that was the extramile movie. Now she wanted to become a versatile actress and that’s why she played a role as in rape victim in the Movie Ghar, and for that movie she received her first nomination for Best Actress at the Filmfare Awards. In the same year she worked in Muqaddar Ka Sikandar with Amitabh Bachchan and that was the biggest hit of that year which help Rekha to become one of the most successful actresses of that times. In 1981 she performed in Umrao Jaan which was the movie based on Urdu novel Umrao Jaan Ada (1905) written by Mirza Hadi Ruswa. She played lead role of Umrao Jaan. It was a successful of that year and she got awarded as National Film for Best Actress. Now after that she worked on many films like Shyam Benegal’s award-winning drama, Kalyug (1981), Govind Nihalani’s Vijeta (1982), Girish Karnad’s Utsav (1984) and Gulzar’s Ijaazat (1987), among others. But In 1990’s Rekha’s decline started as she become older as well, However unequal of all other actresses of her generation like Hema Malini, Netu and Raakhee there were playing the role of Mother or aunts but Rekha was still playing role of Leading actress and she was competing with other younger female actress of that time.
