He started his career in early 2000s and got a leading role as Troy Balton in the High School Musical franchise (2006 – 2008). He was also starred in the musical film Hairspray (2007) and the comedy film 17 Again (2009). He was born in San Luis Obispo in California and later on moved to Arroyo Grande, California. His father was an electrical engineer at a power station, and his mother, Starla Baskett, is a secretary who worked at the same power plant.
